Spirit Board Inspiration

Many have flocked to the spirit board, which is more commonly known by the trademark name, Ouija board. It started in 540 BC during the days of the Pythagoras. Like everyone else, they were attracted to it because they were seeking peace and answers and closure. There is nothing wrong with wanting any of those things. What is idiotic is going to some board with some letters on it expecting peace, get answers, and locate that elusive closure. The spirit board exists because of lazy slackers. The spirit board is still attracting enough idiots to be considered popular today

The reason there is a spirit board is because people got lazy, that’s right, no enlightening moments, and no flashes of light… just laziness inspired the spirit board. Before the spirit boards there were tables on canisters that would roll around the room to the letters on the floor. Mediums would interpret the “messages from the spirits”. It took too much effort to get people to come to where the tables were set up. In a time when transportation was more primitive than today, it just couldn’t bring in the crowds that some mediums wanted. Fewer people meant fewer bucks in their pockets. The noisy tables were big and cumbersome. When setting up in a new place, the letters had to be put on each floor the show was to be at. So instead of some inspiring noble birth, the spirit board was created because it was too much work lugging a table around and writing numbers on floors.

The pendulum was a step towards the portable spirit board, but it also required some set up. The plate with letters around the edge, was easily transported, but the pendulum had to be set up just right to get it to swing over the letters. The mediums could conveniently reach more gullible idiots, but it was still limiting. The technique of spirit writing, using a small device on two canisters with a pencil as the “third leg” was portable but difficult to read the writing. Lazy people didn’t want to find some medium, to interpret the chicken scratches that it would write.

Seeing the number of idiots that were drawn to spirit tables, pendulums, and spirit writing, caught the attention of entrepreneurs of the time and an alternative that was less work and effort was created, the spirit board. It made it easy for anyone to set up shop anywhere and communicate with spirits. Suddenly it was convenient for everyone from the neighbor with all those cats to your drunken uncle to become a medium and communicate with spirits!
